gphoto2-2.1.0: description + notes

gPhoto2 is a free, redistributable library that can be used by applications to access digital cameras, written by Scott Fritzinger with assistance from developers around the world.

gPhoto2 supports more than 190 different digital camera models from various vendors. A command-line frontend, gphoto2, is included with the package.

Note: Cameras auto detect mode is not supported on non-USB connections (this is a current limitation of the gPhoto2 libraries).

Note: Standard serial ports are owned by default by root, hence a normal user cannot run the gphoto2 frontend or any other application based on the gPhoto2 libraries. You can change protections with ioconfig, but may compromise security if other devices are connected to the serial ports.

Developers intending to use this distribution for application development should be sure to read the information in FAQ 3.8.
